Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare
It has been a few months since I got my hands on this book. I was looking for the hardcover edition in Norway but never found it. After getting home, I ordered the book online but hadn’t started reading it yet. Half of me wanted to read it as soon as possible, but the other half didn’t want to get started because I would have to wait too long until the next book in the series came out. My curiosity won this battle, and I finished reading Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare.
Sword Catcher is the first book in the Chronicles of Castellane Series. It is also the first book Cassandra Clare has written that is not in the Shadowhunter world. I grew up with the Shadowhunter books, and because of that, Cassandra Clare has a special place in my heart. I buy and read every book she has ever written.
Sword Catcher is about Kel, Conor, and Lin. Kel is an orphan taken to the palace at only 10 years old. He is to become Prince Conor's sword catcher. A Sword Catcher is both a bodyguard and stand-in. His one purpose in life is to save Conor.
“I am the Prince’s shield. I am his unbreakable armor. I bleed that he might not bleed. I suffer that he might never suffer. I die that he might live forever.”

The other person we follow in this book is Lin Caster. She is part of a community that still has some magical abilities. She uses these abilities to work as a physician. Kel, Conor, and Lin are brought together by an unfortunate event, and we follow them as they try to fix the things that happen around them.
“He goes round in all black, like Gentleman Deat comes to take your soul, and his carriage wheels are stained with blood.”

From the first chapter, I was completely immersed in the world. I couldn’t stop reading, and I finished the whole book, around 600 pages, within four days, and on these days, I had to go to work and train. It read fast, and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I was the most invested in the parts about Conor. For some reason, his character spoke the most to me, and I wouldn’t have minded if there were some chapters written from his perspective.
I can’t wait until the next book is published. On Goodreads, the date is set for March 2025. I don’t know how I will be able to wait for a little more than 10 months. I think it's time to reread the Shadowhunter books.
As you can expect from this review, I am giving this book 5 stars. If it had been possible, it would have been a 6 star book.
