It’s a mess…
If you have bought your own house, there is always something to do. We bought a house in 1966, and there probably hasn’t been anything done since then. In the dining room and living room, a gas heater was installed. This way of heating isn’t sustainable, and with the gas prices in the Netherlands, we were planning to get these uninstalled.
The double chimney took up a lot of space in the dining and living room, but it was even more in the way on the second floor. In what we want to be our main bedroom, the chimney took up around 2m2. Of course, we can not start breaking down the chimney from the ground. So first, we went up to the roof. Except for a bit of drizzle, we had sun all day long, and before four o'clock, the chimney above the roof was taken down.
After the roof, it was time to finish the second floor. This part was easier, but we also had to break down the closets around the chimney. This took another day, and at the end of the day, we were completely covered in red brick dust.
After we were done upstairs, we went to work in the dining room, which was a mess. Even though we put up a sheet to keep the dust from spreading, it still got everywhere. After getting all the bricks and tiles out, we spent the rest of the day cleaning the house.
Now, we are ready to make a plan and start with the master bedroom.
