UK Trip Day One: Plans changed
We were planning to leave on Thursday to go on our trip to the United Kingdom but due to a rough weather report decided to change our plans. We were both able to get an additional day off of work and leave on Wednesday. No sleeping in either way as we had to leave before 5:30am.
We arrived right on time at the ferry in Calais after standing still for a while in the morning traffic. We could get through border control in no time, after they checked our passports at three different points and even took a look in the back of our car. Which was completely empty so not much to look at. It was a quiet morning at sea as there weren’t a lot of people travelling by ferry.
We had a smooth sail with only 2 bft of wind instead of the 8 to 10 bft we would have had if we were to leave tomorrow. Today we arrived at Dover, at 12:30PM UK time with perfect weather. The sun was shining and we were able to go on a walk along the white cliffs without a jacket or a jumper on. It was nice to stretch the legs before getting back in the car to drive another two hours to the hotel.
The evening we spend mostly at the hotel close to Amesbury, where we watched the F1 Grand Prix in the United States that we still hadn’t seen. After a long day it felt good to lay down for a bit and to safe some energy for the coming days as we will be doing a lot of walking.
