We made it!!!

It was quite a journey. I can tell you all about the good things and what a beautiful experience it was. But that’s not the hole story. It all started on Friday 11th it al started early in the morning. At 8 we left and went to the last lock before we headed out to sea. We touched the locks walls for a few seconds and said to each other this will be the last of The Netherlands we will feel before coming back.

The first day was the best of the days we had. We were both in a very good mood and just before passing Schiermonnikoog we saw a lot of seals on one of the banks.

The weather was really nice and because the wind was quite easy and calm we hoisted our Spinnaker. We really went fast with that one.

At the second day the trouble started. We both got sick and after the night we were completely exhausted. The sea looked endless and every way we looked the only thing we saw was water. Hours would go by without even seeing a ship or a bird.

Even though we only wanted to sleep and get to see the shore. There were lot of things to sea that night. The sunset this night was incredible and when it got dark we could see Sea Sparkle (Dutch: Zeevonk / Official Name: Noctiluca scintillans) and more shooting stars than we could count. The shooting stars were really big and somethings it looked as if you could see theme burning.

Somethings that were a bit scary were the big ships that could come from every where, at every time. We were happy with the AIS because it could get quite misty on the sea in the morning and than your didn’t see them till there where right in front in you.

The last day on see there happend something really special. We were staring out into the sea and didn’t expect much to happen. We were trying to survive the wind that was picking up and to stay awake without really having slept the last nights. And than there they were. Dolphins and a lot of them. Swimming close to our ship and we could almost touch them. It was amazing and really something special. I can tell you it feels completely different to see these animals in the wild than in a zoo.

In the middle of the night of the 13th at 11:30 PM we arrived at Mandel in Norway. It was a evening we will never forget and I have to confess we even shed some tears when we saw the lighthouse and were quite glad to set foot on land.
