Court of Wanderers by Rin Chupeco
As the spooky season is on its way, I was feeling like reading a vampire book, so I picked up the sequel to Silver and Nightfall. The artwork on the inside pages and the cover of this book is even more beautiful than the first book, so I am quite intrigued to see where the story is going to go.
The story follows Remy, the vampire heiress, and his fiancé as they face an enemy that is a lot closer to him than they could ever have expected. To fight this enemy, Remy and his accomplices have to win over the support of the other vampire courts and learn to navigate their relationship in a way they haven’t before.
“Never love anyone so much that it makes them the death of you”

This book has let me down entirely. I didn’t enjoy the story and was getting very bored with it. If you believe Goodreads, its genre is supposedly horror, but there wasn’t anything horror-like in it. It was only about all the things the three main characters did to and with each other. I don’t mind if there’s a little bit of that in a book, but it shouldn’t be the main story. It felt like a lot of unnecessary filling of the pages.
“If any harm comes to Remington, Malekh will murder the whole world,” Xiaodan said.

Overall, it was a very flat story, with little building in the plot or the characters. I was looking forward to learning more about the other courts they had to work together with, but the book barely got into it. If you want to read a book where the main characters are intimate with each other for at least 300 of the 450 pages, go for it and read it. Even though most of the book is about the relationship between the three main characters, there isn’t any depth.
I did finish reading this book, but felt like dnf’ing it more than once. It’s only going to be 2 stars for me.
