We are kitesur… blub blub blub…
I needed more excitement after a holiday with so many exciting things to see, and I was missing that when I got back home. So, I took it upon myself to find something to do, and I did find something. Ever since learning about kitesurfing, I wanted to be able to do it. When I was only 14th, I asked my parents for a lesson till they let me fly with a real kitesurfing kite at my birthday party with a few of my best friends. We didn’t get on a board, but with the instructor, we got dragged through the water with the kite.
I got myself a two-hour lesson, and we started with the basics: blowing up the upper part of the kite, laying out and attaching the bar and the ropes. When that was all done, we took the gear out into the water, and I started learning to control the kite. The instructor had to hold me by my harness because, in the beginning, I got blown up and away a few times.
After getting the kite under control, we got to the good part. I had to lay on my belly in the water, and as I was steering the kite, I got pulled through the water by the kite. There were a few times when I got a little bit too much power through the kite and tried to drown myself, but every time, we got up laughing and tried again.
In the last 15 minutes of the lesson, I had my first tries at getting on the board. This involved a lot of catapulting over the board, but after trying a few times, I got on and stayed on the board for a few seconds. When the wind is good again, I will have a second lesson to try and stand on the board for more than a few seconds, and I really can’t wait to try again.
