Day Eight: Jostedalsbreen National Park
We slept very well with the sound of rain around us and falling water from the waterfall, but when we woke up, there was finally a break in the dark clouds, and the sun appeared. The view was even more beautiful than we thought last night.
On our way to Jostedalsbreen National Park, we decided to stop at the city of Sogndal. We walked to the harbour to take in the sunlight and watched the ferry come and go. We planned to stop at the local supermarket to get some water, but we discovered it was closed on Sunday. Fortunately, we weren’t in great need, and we will try again tomorrow.
After a short drive, we arrived at The National Park, and because the weather was still on our side, we decided to hike towards the Glaciers. It was a bit of a messy hike because of all the fallen rain. Parts of the trail were now little rivers going down, and more than once, we were sliding in the mud, but we kept everything above our shoes clean and dry and were rewarded with the beautiful Glacier on the mountaintop.
Seeing a glacier as large as this one is unbelievable. I still can’t wrap my mind around it and had to remind myself more than once that I wasn’t dreaming. It sure feels like one, but the tinting feeling in my hand from the cold makes sure I know it’s real. On our hike, we met some locals who guided us back down to the start of the trail.
With a view like that, we may have found this holiday's most beautiful sleeping spot, but you never know. There are still a few more days left on this trip.
