Day Seven: Fjærland
It’s a gloomy day out here and a sad day for pictures because most had to be taken through a window. Today, it wasn’t just raining; it was pouring, not for a little while but for the whole day. Luckily, we didn’t have to walk to our next destination, and it was warm and dry inside the car. However, we did get sooked while putting away our tent and sleeping gear and skipped breakfast outside for a quick breakfast in the car. We arrived at the ferry after driving through the rain for an hour or so.
Our time on the ferry was short, and we arrived at the other side of the Sognefjord, and this side is one to never forget. It’s the first time we have ever seen a glacier, and it is much bluer than I would have thought. We could only see a tiny bit, but this one is the largest glacier in Europe. It’s almost 500 square kilometres. We went to the glacier museum nearby to learn more about it and the shelter from the rain.
To get to our sleeping spot was another adventure. First, we saw some cows walking alongside the highway without fencing so they could go over the road at any moment they liked, and after that, we had to cross a bridge. Crossing a bridge doesn’t sound that hard, but when a massive waterfall is going right over it, it is hard. There has been a lot of rain in the last few days, and the amount of water that has to get down has increased massively. The stream was throwing around loose rocks while crashing down, under, up and around the bridge.
After crossing this bridge, we were super happy to have found such a beautiful place to stay for the night. We hope the weather will clear up so we can explore on foot. It will be another cold night with all that ice around, but with such a view, there is nothing to complain about.
