Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender

When we were in London I bought this book and after finishing How to Make friends with the dark I was in the mood for a book with a bit of a lighter plot. But at the same time I needed something to escape the real world with and ended up with the Infinity Alchemist.

In The Infinity Alchemist, we follow Ash. A boy from the poorer parts of the city. His dream is to become an Alchemist and he practices hard even though practicing Alchemy without a license is Illegal and punishable by death. One day while practicing Ash gets caught, but instead of being taken to the guards he gets offered a deal. If he helps Ramsey find the book of Source his secret will be safe.

“Ah, yes clothes - seems justifiable for your death”

The best thing about this book was that halfway through the book I found out that it is the first book in a series. So I will be able to continue this series, with these characters, in the future. The characters are what made the book for me although they made me quite confused at first when Ramsey kept changing genders, during the second half of the book I got used to it or he didn’t change as often. The plot is easy to follow but the book is mostly about the characters and their growth. I would even go as far as to say this book is a great book to get started with reading fantasy books.

“Well, we’re not actively trying to kill each other. I think that means we’re friends by default, doesn’t it?” “Huh, maybe it does.”

Now that I know there is a second book in this series I can’t wait to read it, but I will have to be passient as it isn’t published yet. Definitely a book to recommend. 4-stars.
