Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

It has been a while since I read the first book in the Shadow and Bone Trilogy, so it was time to start the second one. I have a feeling this will be the one I enjoy the most, as it is on a ship. No waiting around; just get into it.

In Siege and Storm, we follow Alina after she escapes from the Darkling. This doesn’t go well, and she and Mal end up on board the ship of Sturmhond, a privateer working for the Darkling. They are forced to hunt the Sea Whip, the second mythical creature whose scales will amplify her powers. This book is full of politics, romance, and an epic battle. We see people change in a way we never thought possible.

“When people say impossible, they usually mean improbable.”

I really loved reading this story and was completely immersed in Stormhond's story. I couldn’t wait to learn more about him and why he did things the way he did. While reading this book and talking with my friends about it, I learned that there are books written solely about him, so I know what I am going to read after I finish this series.

“Watch yourself, Nikolai,” Mal said softly. “Princes bleed just like other men.”
Nikolai plucked an invisible piece of dust from his sleeve. “Yes,” he said. “They just do it in better clothes.

Nikolai’s story is what made the book so enjoyable for me. You just don’t know what to expect when he’s around, and because of that, the book will get 4 stars.
